Google Demand Gen August 2026: Messaging and Video

Google's August 2026 Demand Gen Drop made Multimodal Video Creation generally available and started testing message buttons in YouTube ads. What to do now.

Google's August 2026 Demand Gen Drop, published on 27 August, did two things that matter to small advertisers: Multimodal Video Creation is now generally available, and Google is testing a way for viewers to start a conversation with a brand straight from a Demand Gen ad on YouTube. One is usable today. The other is still a test.

Everything below comes from Google's own Demand Gen Drop post, as of October 2026.

What is Multimodal Video Creation?

It's a video-making tool inside Google's ad workflow. Per Google, advertisers can go from storyboarding to producing horizontal and vertical assets in one place, so the same creative can run across all Demand Gen inventory.

It's now generally available, which means you don't need a special invite. If you've avoided video ads because you have no editor, this lowers the bar. It won't fix a weak offer, though.

What is the YouTube messaging test?

Google says it is testing a button that lets viewers start a conversation with a brand directly from a Demand Gen ad on YouTube. The idea is to pull high-intent people closer to a purchase without sending them through a form.

Be careful here. Trade coverage differs on which messaging apps are involved, and the post as summarized does not give markets, a timeline or eligibility rules. Treat it as something to watch, not something to plan a quarter around.

What else changed?

Google also lists updates for travel advertisers, aimed at lead generation and customer acquisition. If you sell SaaS, those probably don't apply to you.

Google attributes an average 30% lift in conversions or conversion value to Demand Gen improvements it shipped in the second half of 2025. That is Google's own figure, not an independent measurement, so don't use it to forecast your results.

Meta also changed its business plans

A separate September 2026 note from Meta introduced Meta One, a subscription service across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Meta AI. According to Meta's announcement, plans for creators and businesses start at $14.99 a month, with higher business tiers above that, and the core experience stays free. Meta says the plans roll out gradually, so check your regional price and availability before you budget.

What should a small SaaS team do?

  1. Only test Demand Gen if you already have a working landing page and a clear signup goal. Otherwise you're paying to learn what you could have learned for free.
  2. Try one short vertical video and one horizontal video, same message, small budget, one metric (trial starts).
  3. Prepare for messaging before it arrives. Decide who answers, how fast, and what you do with consent for follow-up.
  4. Keep UTM tags on everything so you can compare this channel with your organic ones.

If you're weighing paid against free channels first, our channel-by-channel promotion plan shows the order we'd use, and the Marketing & Advertising hub tracks platform changes as they land.

FAQ

Is Multimodal Video Creation free?

Google's post describes it as a creative tool in the Demand Gen workflow. It doesn't state separate pricing, so you pay for the ads you run. Check your account for details.

When will the YouTube messaging button be available to everyone?

Google hasn't published a date. It is described as a test.

Does Demand Gen work for B2B SaaS?

It reaches people while they browse, so intent is usually lower than in search. Many teams start with search and add Demand Gen once they have creative that works.

Your next step: pull last month's top organic landing page and brief one 15-second video around its headline.
