Todoist Calendar Updates: September 2026 Changes
Todoist's September 2026 changelog puts the calendar first: Plan sidebar filters and completed recurring tasks in date views. What changed and who benefits.
Todoist's calendar got most of the attention in its changelog in early September. The biggest practical change: as of September 10, 2026, you can filter the calendar's Plan sidebar by project or label, so scheduling a week takes less scrolling.
Here is what the official Todoist 2026 changelog lists for September, and what we'd do about it.

What did Todoist change in the calendar?
Plan sidebar filters (September 10, 2026)
The Plan sidebar is where unscheduled tasks wait for a slot in your calendar. It now accepts filters by project or label. If you keep a "deep work" label or a project per client, you can show only those tasks and drop them onto the days you have room for.
Completed recurring tasks in date views (September 10, 2026)
Finished occurrences of recurring tasks now appear in Today, Upcoming and other date views. In practice, a daily habit you ticked off this morning no longer vanishes, so the day reads like a log of what you did as well as what is left.
Past events stop crowding Today (September 3, 2026)
A September 3 entry changes Today's calendar so past events no longer crowd out upcoming ones. Small, but if you connect an external calendar, you will notice it daily.
Check the changelog itself for other entries, since Todoist updates it often and rollouts can differ by platform.
Who should care?
- Solo founders who plan in time blocks. The Plan sidebar filter is the useful one. Make one label for each kind of block ("writing", "calls", "admin") and you can fill a week in minutes.
- People with habit-style recurring tasks. Seeing completed occurrences in date views makes Today a better record of your day.
- Teams. Nothing here is aimed at shared work. If you need cycles, owners and stages, read our guide to choosing a project management tool for a small team.
A quick setup to try this week
- Create three labels for the types of work you schedule.
- Open the calendar, filter the Plan sidebar by one label, and place tasks on the days you have room.
- Keep the same label rules for a month before changing them.
