ChatGPT Intelligent UI and GPT-6: What Changed in October
OpenAI began rolling out GPT-6 and Intelligent UI in ChatGPT on October 7, 2026. Here is who gets which model, what the interactive answers do and what to test.
OpenAI started rolling out GPT-6 and a feature called Intelligent UI in ChatGPT on October 7, 2026. Answers can now mix text with visuals and small interactive tools, and the model you get depends on your plan.
This summary follows OpenAI's ChatGPT release notes as of October 12, 2026. Trade press coverage fills in a few details, and we flag where it does.
Who gets which GPT-6 model?
The rollout is staged by plan:
| Plan | Model | Start |
|---|---|---|
| Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise | GPT-6 Sol | October 7 |
| Free and Go | GPT-6 Luna | October 8 |
Pro reasoning runs on a separate model, GPT-6 Astra, which coverage says does not support Intelligent UI. Enterprise access depends on what the workspace admin has switched on. If you run ChatGPT for a team, check the admin settings before you tell people it is "just there".
What does Intelligent UI actually do?
Instead of returning only paragraphs, ChatGPT can choose a format for the answer. The release notes describe responses that combine text, visuals and interactive tools such as calculators. Coverage of the launch gives examples like a savings calculator, a bill splitter and a map of road-trip stops.

Our read: this matters most for questions where the answer is a small tool, not a paragraph. Pricing math, trip planning and "what if" comparisons fit. Long-form writing and code do not gain much.
What else shipped around it?
Three smaller entries from the same release notes are easy to miss:
- October 6: paid subscribers and workspaces can upload audio files and get transcripts and summaries. OpenAI warns that transcripts can contain errors, so check names and numbers before you share them.
- October 2: Finances is expanding to Free and Go users.
- October 8: Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app responds faster to follow-up messages that steer a running task, and settings let you choose whether follow-ups steer the current run or wait for the next one.
What should you test this week?
Run three quick checks before you build a habit around it:
- Ask the same pricing or planning question in Intelligent UI and in a plain prompt. Compare the numbers by hand.
- Upload a recorded meeting and verify five names and three figures in the transcript.
- If you manage a workspace, confirm which model your people actually see.
One open point: reports disagree on whether users can switch Intelligent UI off, and we did not find it documented. Check your settings rather than assuming.
