Redirect Checker and HTTP Header Viewer
Follow one URL hop by hop: every redirect and its status code, where it ends, whether http, https, www and non-www agree, and the headers that matter for SEO.
- NOTE 301http → https
- WARNING 302/shop → /shop/ · temporary
- PASS 200Final URL, https
- WARNING Variantswww and non-www end at 2 URLs
What does the free Redirect & HTTP Header Checker analyze?
-
1
Every hop
Each redirect with its status code: 301 and 308 are permanent, 302 and 307 temporary.
-
2
Chains and loops
More than one hop slows crawlers and visitors; a loop never reaches a page.
-
3
The final URL
Its status code, whether it is https, and whether it asks not to be indexed.
-
4
http, https and www
All four variants of the address should end at one URL. If they split, links and signals split too.
-
5
Meta refresh
A redirect inside the HTML instead of the server response — slower and less reliable.
-
6
Headers
HSTS, the charset in Content-Type and gzip or Brotli compression of the HTML.
How to fix redirects
-
1
One hop, permanent
Old URLs should 301 straight to the final page.
-
2
Pick one host
Send http, https, www and non-www to the same final address.
-
3
Update internal links
Link to the final URL, not to an address that redirects. Broken Link Checker →
-
4
Avoid meta refresh
Redirect on the server instead.
-
5
Fix the sitemap too
Replace redirecting URLs with their final ones. Sitemap Finder & Validator →
How to interpret your results
- ISSUE
- A clear fault that usually deserves a fix, e.g. a missing title or a non-200 status.
- WARNING
- May be a problem depending on the page, e.g. a missing description or canonical, or a long title.
- PASS
- Checked and looks fine.
- NOT CHECKED
- Not part of this check, or blocked by the site. The report says which — it is never counted as a fault.

Frequently asked questions
About the Redirect & HTTP Header Checker.
01
Are redirects bad for SEO?
One permanent redirect is fine. Chains slow crawling and visitors, so point links straight at the final address.
02
301 or 302?
Use 301 (or 308) when the move is permanent. 302 and 307 say the old address will come back.
03
How many hops are too many?
Aim for one. Google follows a few, but every hop costs time and some crawlers give up.
04
Why should www and non-www match?
Otherwise the same page lives at two addresses, and links and signals are split between them.
05
What is HSTS?
A header that tells browsers to always use https for your site, so no one lands on http first.
06
Is it free?
Yes. No account is needed. We limit how often one visitor can run checks so the tools stay fast for everyone.
