Connect Woodander to Cursor
Add the Woodander MCP server to Cursor with a short JSON config and check it works with whoami and your first read-only prompts.
Cursor supports remote MCP servers directly, so setup is a short JSON file.
You need a token first: Get a token.
Add the server #
In Cursor open the MCP settings and add a server, or edit the MCP config file (~/.cursor/mcp.json for all projects, or .cursor/mcp.json inside one project). Use:
{
"mcpServers": {
"woodander": {
"url": "https://woodander.com/mcp",
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer <token>"
}
}
}
}Replace <token> with your token and keep the word Bearer.
A ready-to-paste snippet is also on Settings → API & MCP in your Workspace. If it differs from this page, trust the Workspace.
Project file or global file? If you put the config inside a project, never commit it with a real token. Add .cursor/mcp.json to .gitignore, or use the global file.
Check that it works #
Open the MCP settings in Cursor. woodander should show as connected with its tools listed. In the chat, ask:
Call Woodander whoami and show my plan, my limits and the scopes of this token.First prompts #
Cursor sits next to your code, which is the point. Try:
Get my Search Console pages for example.com and find pages with many impressions
and low CTR. Then look at those pages in this repo and suggest better titles and
meta descriptions.Run the latest audit for example.com through get_audit and fix the issues that
live in this codebase. Tell me which ones need something outside the code.Cursor can read the audit and edit the files. Woodander only provides the data and, if you allow it, the approved changes.
If something is off #
- Server shows an error. Check the JSON syntax and the
Bearerprefix. - 401. Wrong, expired or revoked token.
- 403. Missing scope, or your plan has no API access. See Limits and errors.
- Tools list is empty. Toggle the server off and on again, or restart Cursor.
Safety #
Start with read scopes. Add write scopes later, and keep your project or container in Manual mode until you trust the flow. See Modes and approvals.
